A clearly defined principle has driven Stephen
"Steve" Shidler since his first transocean sail as a teenager
from Honolulu to Papeete: "Minimize Energy, Maximize Movement".
His past projects have been solely dedicated to study how to best use
energy, may it be wind ("Wind Warrior")
or fuel/diesel ("Endeavour", "Revolution"),
and how to alter boat designs so as to optimize its consumption and
water penetration.
His current boat, "Water-Wizards", has
been built by Dencho Marine,
Long Beach, California, and was launched in February 2006. It has since
been operating on the West Coast sailing circuit and currently is in
Valencia for the 32nd America's
Cup.
It
is the culmination of years of applied cross-platform research where
the latest materials will be used along with simple common sense, ergonomics,
extensive transocean experience.
"Water
Wizards" is a 50 ft high speed transocean wave piercer power catamaran
specifically designed to be a flexible world wide film
platform for any marine event, high performance races, motion picture
filming and adventurous remote exploration.
